Vienna Convention on Consular Relations. 1963. Most countries are signatories to this Convention. It includes provisions regarding protection of nationals of one country in territory of another. These provisions are very important for the protection of basic rights of migrants, particularly those in Articles 5, 35, 36 and 37.
Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union. On December 7, 2000, during the European Summit, in Nice, France, the Heads of State of member States of the European Union adopted the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the European Union, a legally non-binding document that may be an attempt to develop a binding Charter in the future. The document has refernces to the issue of International Migration and is available here in Spanish, with the immigration parts in red. 9th Reunion of the Mexico-Guatemala Group on Migratory Affairs. The group met in mexico City on September 11 and 12, 2001. This is a link to the press release that resulted from the meeting.
Southern African Migration Project. One of the critical challenges facing governments in Southern Africa relates to the regional movement of a large and growing number of legal and undocumented migrants. The Southern African Migration Project is a multi-faceted research programme designed to facilitate the formulation and implementation of new initiatives on cross-border population migration in the region. The Project, which began in May of 1996, is funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
Canada Immigrant Job Issues. A commercial website on the issue of immigration and the labor market in Canada. Teh website seeks to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with immigrants, researchers, policy makers, and all the people involved or interested in migration-job issues.
Workpermit.com. A commercial site dealing with Immigration, Work Visa and Work Permit Services since 1988. Run by one of the best immigration firms, Workpermit.com is accredited with the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (UK) and provides immigration services for most of the English speaking World and the European Union.
The Euro-Mediterranean Consortium for Applied Research on International Migration (CARIM) was launched in February 2004 as part of the MEDA programme adopted in Valencia in April 2002, concerning “cooperation on issues linked to the social integration of immigrants, migration and the traffic of people”. It is financed by the European Commission for an initial period of three years.
Joint Declaration of the Ministers of Mesoamerican Countries. On Januray 9, 2006, during a meeting in Mexico City the following statement was issued as a joint declaration by the ministers of Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, México, Nicaragua and Panamá. A few days later, Ecuador also subcribed the text.
